DesignInc 2013 SA Parks, Leisure & Recreation Conference Outcomes

The inaugural joint Parks and Leisure Australia and Recreation SA conference held last month was opened by Leon Bignell MP Minister for Recreation, Sport and Tourism, raised some intersting points.

  • Recent trends show a shift away from organised sport in favour of more unstructured activity including walking, cycling, fitness, recreation.

NSW Country Pool Managers Head to Cowra

The NSW Country Pool Managers will be staging their 2013 industry conference in Cowra from Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th May.

To be held at the Cowra Services Club, the conference will include a training session on water testing and quality while Neil Shaw. Manager, General Environmental Health at NSW Health will discuss the Public Health Act 2010 and Public Health Regulations 2012. [Read more...]

Victorian State Sports Centre Trust Secures $6.4 Million Budget Boost

The Victorian Government has made a $6.4 million budget commitment to the State’s major aquatic, recreation and sport venues.

Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty said the funding would go towards ensuring the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), State Netball Hockey Centre (SNHC), and Lakeside Stadium remained at the top of their game. [Read more...]

Children Swim for Free at Swimming Pools Across Auckland

Auckland (and former Manukau) Mayor Len Brown’s policy of extending free entry to children 16 and under at all of Auckland Regional Council’s 24 swimming pools has been in operation since the beginning of April.

In May last year, Mayor Brown had to abandon plans to extend the former Manukau City Council’s free swimming at five pools to those across the now unified Auckland Regional Council area. However, the new Council did back allowing free swimming for those aged 16 and under. [Read more...]

Australian Sports Commission Announces Almost $120 Million Investment in Sport

Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Chair John Wylie has today announced almost $120 million in Government investment allocations to Australian national sporting organisations for 2013-14.

Introducing the funding allocations, Wylie explained “the investment in sports we are announcing today reflects the robust approach we have adopted under Australia’s Winning Edge 2012-2022 the high performance game plan for moving Australian sport from world class to world best. [Read more...]

Record Numbers at Australian Fitness Industry’s Largest Annual Event

Having featured fitness celebrities, Olympians, competitions that tested strength and endurance and the release of the latest fitness equipment and exercise classes, the 2013 Australian Fitness & Health Expo at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre wrapped up with record attendances.

Maintaining its status as the industry’s number one event, the three day event (held from 19th to 21st April) attracted more than 33,967 visitors, up 16.8% on the 2012 attendance figures. [Read more...]
