Unique Planning & Design Workshop a Great Success

Aquatics & Recreation Victoria (ARV) recently completed its inaugural planning and design intensive residential workshop: ‘Narrowing the Gap Between Theory & Reality’, held at the Barwon Heads Resort at 13th Beach over 22-24 October 2012.

This new and unique residential workshop drew delegates from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria to participate in an interactive environment to discuss, learn and guide them through the intricacies of planning, designing and delivering their community’s major aquatic, recreation and sporting infrastructure. The two day program was led by industry experts with many years of experience in planning, designing and delivering a significant number of multi-million dollar projects between them.

“The program was designed for delegates to come along with their questions and problems and over the two days come away with strategies and advice to help them get the best from their own projects”, said ARV CEO Mr Ian Swan.

“The intimate nature of the workshop allowed participants to share their experiences, learn from each other and gain the benefits of the vast knowledge of our industry experts over the two days and come away thoroughly exhausted, but more knowledgeable and informed.”

The workshop also combined the collective advice contained in ARV’s current industry guideline documents:

  • Pool Concourse Guidelines- Design, Construction, Management & Maintenance Considerations
  • Functional Design Brief Template
  • Indoor Aquatic and Recreation Facility Development Guidelines-Component Mix, Catchment Populations, Planning and Delivery Considerations

Given the significant investment local, state and federal governments make in providing community aquatic, recreation and leisure infrastructure, this ARV intensive workshop will be held annually to help promote best practice and the sharing of current knowledge and skills, to ensure the delivery of effective community facilities that promote healthier lifestyles and better community health outcomes.
