The ASCTA Convention 2012 was held from 24 April to 1 May at the Sofitel Gold Coast. About 50 internationals travelled from USA, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, China and Hong Kong to attend. Plus there were another 800 attend from every state in Australia.
A highlight was Paulus Wildboer, the Danish National Head Coach since 2008 who engaged the crowd with his philosophies and club coaching knowledge . Another highlight was Johnny and Cindy Johnson who own Blue Buoy Swim School in the USA. 50 lucky attendees travelled by bus to the Laurie Lawrence Swim School to attend a course and/or workshop at the centre – they were so excited to be spending the day with Laurie…
Coaches and Teachers loved meeting each morning at the Go Club Brekkie where they networked with Australia’s leading Coaches. The Swim Australia™ Teacher Leaders Get-Together was lots of fun with the Swimming NSW boys winning the quiz. Many enjoyed the ASCTA Golf Championships then topped it off that evening by attending the ASCTA Welcome Party. Two dinners were held and many awards given. There were coaching and teaching courses conducted with presentations by industry experts such as Bill Sweetenham, Matthew Brown, Gary Barclay, Rohan Taylor, Barb Nolan and Bruce Sullivan, just to name a few.
Some of the feedback received includes – “Just thought I would let you know that this year was the first time I have attended the ASCTA conference and I was both amazed and inspired by what a great event it was,” and “Thank you so much for another wonderful ASCTA Convention. I had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people, hear many stories and best of all learn new things and pick up a wide range of ideas. I can’t wait for next year.”
